Halloween

The Unique Knit Warriors all came together and put their all into their first collaborative project, a patchwork pumpkin. Everyone contributed by making orange pieces (Katrina and Tequila did a lot of these) or assembling the patchwork (especially Sierra and Ashante). As the pumpkin began to develop, some of the knitters got worried about how it was going to turn out... will he be facially deformed????

But as it came together we all agreed that it looked funny but not so bad. Jayria added a leaf and stem, while Bryuna, Eugene and Ariel worked on the eyes and nose. We decided it was very good for our first patchwork....Takeema said "especially if you squint from a distance" ;-)

We also learned how to make tassles and pompoms which we turned into ghosts and decorations for the trees in the courtyard:

Then Jayria and Takeema took artsy spooky photos of our handywork:

The UKW don't play!!!!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN......BOO!

fresh start

knitLAB has been here for three weeks!

We started out with finger knitting. We knit without needles and used our fingers to make loose samples which we sewed together into a spider web.

We decorated BBF for the All of the Lights on Afterschool Festival, and for Halloween. This included the group's first knit bomb. We each learned to knit and sewed our first piece together using needle and yarn or zip ties. We put the bomb somewhere for our community to see on the column on the second floor.

We also learned how to block our knit pieces in order to keep their shape.

We watched films about our community and everyday life and then discussed them.
